iPad 2

It's been a while since i have written here. I've been busy and haven't really had anything new to review. This isn't new either, but it is to me.

Out of the box i was very impressed. Its slim, its sleek and it looks amazing. My original iPad did too, but this was something totally different. The only thing i am worried about is how fragile it feels. It is thinner than iPhone 4, im scared im going to bend it!!

The OS is something else that i am really ahppy with. With iOS 5, the iPad will be seperated from the iPhone and iPod. It has more and more iPad only apps everyday. This makes me happy.

I would recommend this to anyone who only uses a computer for basic usage. It does everything you need it to do.

Manchester Orchestra - Simple Math (Released May 10th 2011)

I'm not going to lie, my obsession with this band has been quite obvious for some time. My friends have even considered holding an intervention for me because of it. That being said, i will be 100% honest in what i think about this album.

I was so excited when I saw that I could get a hold of this album 2 days earlier than the release date. I sat there waiting for the download to complete, feeling like the 5 minutes it was taking, were actually 5 days. As soon as it was done, i organised it into my well organised music folder, loaded into iTunes, cranked it to 11 and sat.

As "Deer" came on, i wasnt 100% sure if i had the right album. After listening to the album "Mean everything to nothing" earlier that day, I was expecting the album to kick me in the nuts as soon as it started. Instead I got soft melodies, nice harmonies, a certain creepiness of a voice that only Andy Hull could pull of. I didnt understand what had happened. Had they gone soft? Were my nuts safe this time around?? I have to admit, I wasn't happy.

I listened to the whole album with this attitude, and felt empty. Had i wasted nearly a year waiting for this?? Had i missed something?? Should i compare it to all the other things they had brought out, whether it had been Manchester or any side projects that they had been involved in??

I was an idiot.

I went home, out of my work environment and decided to give it another chance. Maybe i was in a weird mood, maybe my expectations had taken away from what was really there. Music is a funny thing. If you have expectations, it will always let you down. There aren't allowed to be expectations with music, music has no rules. That's why we like it. That's why it will always be my mistress.

This was the sexiest thing i had ever listened to. The amazing harmonies, the stringed orchestra they used, the childrens choir, the style, EVERYTHING. I had heard the title song "Simple Math" a month ago, as they had released it online, and i thought nothing would top it. April Fool is now my favourite song of all time.

In an interview i read with Andy Hull in a magazine weeks earlier, he went to say this about the album "Simple Math." He stated:

Simple Math is the reaction to his marital, physical, and mental failures. But for the first time, I’m not blaming anyone but myself.”

This shows. Every song has a theme to it, and the music matches perfectly well with what is being sung about. The song "Simple Math" is about cheating on your spouse, and how lying to yourself to make it ok in your head is messed up. The music reflects that completely.

I would recommend any true music fan to listen to this album. It is an amazing concept from a band who in my point of view has never missed a beat in the music that they make. I guess first impressions don't always count, because if they do, i would of missed something amazing.

Simple Math is available now on iTunes and CD. There are some special editions still available on www.themanchesterorchestra.com but as soon as people hear this album, they will sell out fast.

I hope people enjoy this as much as i did.

James out.
